Apo Golf and Country Club will once again be the venue for the 3rd Davao Pro-Am Golf Tournament to be held on August 28 to 30, 2012. The tournament is sponsored by Samsung and EMCOR, as the companies' way to give back to the community and in doing their corporate social responsibility.

Golf is generally associated as the game of rich businessmen and prominent people. Celso Villegas, EMCOR President, said that part of the proceeds of the Davao Pro-Am Golf Tourney will be used to finance the underprivileged students of Mati, Davao Oriental, which project was initiated through a group of Benedictine nuns. Villegas also said that the first group of students who were beneficiary-scholars were children of rebel-returnees, and at the moment, there are 14 students in different levels from elementary to high school.
Samsung's partnership with EMCOR has remained strong for three years now. The top electronics corporation was represented by their PR Manager, Odette Velarde, and shared that Samsung is also doing small projects in Davao with the Philippine Eagle Foundation. Samsung helps the only Philippine Eagle center in our country in trying to modernize the breeding of eagles.
Tournament Director Antonio Carlos "Boy Blue" Ocampo explained the tournament rules.
"Format of play is foursomes or alternate shot with the pros to tee off on odd holes and the amateurs on the even ones in the first round. They will switch off tee-off assignments in the second day and then back to the first day sequence in the final round. To ensure a level playing field, the top-ranked pros will not be allowed to team up with amateurs with index of 5 and below."
As of press time, approximately 99 teams have already signed up. The numbers have progressed since 2010 when 82 teams signed up for the very first Davao Pro-Am Golf Tournament, while 87 teams joined the 2011 tourney.
Pro-golfer Elmer Salvador, who currently ranks top 2 in the playing field, also attended the event. He shared that he has teamed up with Ryan Gotan who hails from General Santos City.
Boy Arriba, EMCOR's Vice President for marketing, invites us all to witness this fun event at the Apo Golf and Country Club, Bago, Davao City. A total of P1,000,000 will be divided among the top 40 players, and the top prize will be P172,000 for the professional golfer and trophy and merchandise for the amateur. 1 Honda XRM motorcycle will also be raffled for the pro players. The awarding of prizes will be held on August 30, 2012, at 2:00 in the afternoon.

ReplyDeleteNice to see that Samsung is going strong here despite its recent loss to Apple in the American courtroom. I hope the company continues to make smartphones affordable and not bow to the monopoly of Apple. :)
ReplyDeleteThe only time I played golf was when I was on a business trip in New Zealand. The best thing about it is playing in scenic courses. Since this tournament will be held at Apo Golf and Country Club, definitely it will a good thing!
ReplyDeletePlay golf while helping plus a nice scenery of Mt. Apo, it must be fun and fulfilling.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite understand how golf is played but anything done for the purpose of helping is quite welcome.
