To achieve the arms eagle pose, here's what I do:
1. Stretch out both arms sideways.
2. Slowly move your stretch arms upwards until they cross.
3. Slowly bend your elbows while making your palms face each other.
4. Breath in and out making sure that your lungs expand as you fill them with air.
5. Relax and do it all over again.
I love doing this pose while sitting down with both feet on the ground. Arching your back a little bit and leaning forward and down also helps a lot in stretching the lower back muscles.
This is included in my warm up stretches before a run to keep the core muscles warm and stable.
ReplyDeleteI love doing this pose!. I remember back in my high school days, I always challenge my classmates if they can do this pose hahaha and only few of my classmates can do it properly/achieve the pose perfectly. They think I was a circus freak and super flexible that time. hehehe
ReplyDeleteI tried the arms eagle pose, I like it and will do it from now on.
ReplyDeleteShucks I don't know if I have scoliosis. Gotta check with a doctor some time. These poses look like the ones featured by our yoga instructor. Would you suggest to do it every day?
ReplyDeleteYes. I used to do it everyday as part of my morning routine. =)
DeleteSlouching unconsciously, is it one of the symptoms of scoliosis? I should try this tomorrow morning! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is best to consult an orthopedic doctor to determine scoliosis. I know that having uneven shoulders could be a symptom of scoliosis. Some people slouch even though they are not scoliotic.
DeleteMy brother has scoliosis too and I guess he knows this shoulder stretch since he visits the gym in a regular basis and work out.
ReplyDeleteA regular routine for me. As you grow old, your muscles and joints still need flexibility.
ReplyDeleteTrue!
Deletei've been dying to try yoga!! i am practicing a little bit here at home to stretch and somehow i am dreaming of achieving those very stretchy poses they do. I am not strecheble as my legs is long hehe.. I did this also! feels good!

ReplyDeleteI was planning to go back on my everyday exercise - 35-50 sit ups per day and surely I will include this Upper Back and Shoulder Stretch you shared. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI do this pose to relax.. it's a really great way of stretching plus meditating.. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have scoliosis but I can feel pain in my back. Need to try this exercise too!
ReplyDeleteIt feels good when I tried doing the eagle pose. May I know how many minutes you should do this?
ReplyDeleteI usually do 4 repetitions. Then I take 4 to 6 full breaths while doing the pose in each rep. =)
DeleteI love this pose as well! I've don Bikram Yoga for a while and I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love yoga, too! =)
DeleteI followed this step-by-step stretch and it instantly removed my back ache. =)
ReplyDeleteGood to know that! =)
DeleteThis is what I need a shoulder stretch and I followed your instructions!
ReplyDeleteGlad that it helped!
DeleteI am very ignorant when it comes to yoga. I've never been flexible. Feeling ko, mababali lahat ng buto ko if I try yoga :D but great of you to use it for relieving pains brought about by your ailment :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's great with yoga is that you don't have to pressure yourself too much if you cannot get the pose on the first try. Dahan2 lang, wag dapat pine-pressure ang sariling katawan. =)
